There are 17 campsites near Sanquhar, Dumfries and Galloway, offering options for tents, caravans, motorhomes, and glamping.  The closest option within the village itself is the Newark Farm Certificated Location, which accepts Caravan and Motorhome Club members only and provides electric hookups on a working farm, though it lacks toilet or shower facilities.

For broader facilities and non-membership sites, popular nearby choices include:

Penpont Holiday Park (Thornhill, ~10 miles away): A highly rated site with 25 pitches, open from April to October 2025.
Lettershaws Farm Certificated Site (Biggar, ~10 miles away): Accepts Club members and offers pitches for vans and tents.
Red Squirrel Campsite (Dumfries, ~16 miles away): A small, family-run site with excellent reviews, open from May to October 2025.
Moffat Camping and Caravanning Club Site (Moffat, ~19 miles away): A large site with 150 pitches and high visitor ratings.
Most sites in the region are open year-round or during the peak season from March/April to October/November 2025, with specific opening dates varying by location. Many sites welcome dogs and offer amenities such as Wi-Fi, fishing, and nearby hiking trails like the 7stanes mountain bike centers.

When will the works take place?
Works will begin on Monday 18 May 2026 and will be completed by Friday 10 July 2026, with all restrictions lifted by 6.30pm.

The programme has been carefully planned to finish well in advance of Sanquhar Civic Day and the Riding of the Marches (15 August 2026) and to avoid conflict with anticipated Commonwealth Games traffic, beginning on 23 July 2026.

this forum is basically a links page and information page which I hope helps someone out there, it's open to everybody and if anyone wishes to modulate any parts of this please contact me and I will add you happily as it is only meant to help the community and nothing more. I don't want to put political or religious or any type of serious advertising on here as it's a waste of time for all of us and annoying So let's hope given time this will grow into a useful tool for locals and holidaymakers.

Why Is It Called Hairyneil.co.uk Simply put I already had the domain name and I'm too tight to buy another one until I am happy that this has taken off at which point I will ask for a poll for what you all think it should be called at which point I will purchase a domain name and realign it to the new name

Wind Farms / about Phase 1 & 2 Wind Farms
Last post by Administrator - May 20, 2026, 10:46 AM
There are two major wind farm developments in Sanquhar, Scotland: the operational Sanquhar Community Wind Farm (Phase 1) and the under-construction Sanquhar II Community Wind Farm (Phase 2).

Sanquhar Community Wind Farm (Phase 1) Status: Operational since 2017/2018. Capacity: 31.05 MW to 32.4 MW. Details: This onshore wind farm is owned and operated by Community Windpower.

It generates enough electricity to power approximately 30,000 households and is located in Dumfries and Galloway. Sanquhar II Community Wind Farm (Phase 2) Status: Under construction; expected to be operational in August 2026. Capacity: 308 MW (making it the fourth-largest onshore wind farm in the UK).

Details: Developed by CWP Energy, this project features 44 turbines (42 at 200m tip height, 2 at 149m) supplied by Vestas.  It is located in Dumfries and Galloway and East Ayrshire, approximately 6.5km southwest of Sanquhar. Impact:

The project represents an £800 million investment, will power around 335,000 homes, and is expected to offset 540,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.  It includes a battery storage facility for grid stability and pledges over £1.25 million annually to local community funds. A third nearby project, Cloud Hill, was approved in December 2025 for 10 turbines near Sanquhar, with construction expected to start in 2028. Win Farm 2
